Dinner Hosted by the Transcona Legion for EX-Service Men and Women

The Transcona Legion Poppy Committee hosted a  Dinner  for the Ex-Service Men and Women of the Transcona Area on Sept 29th.  The dinner was prepared by the Ladies Auxiliary and was very delicious.  It was noted that they feel very appreciated for the service they gave our Country by us having a function like this for them.  Greetings were given by the President, Celeste West and the Poppy Chairman, Jim Sylvester.

Legion replaced Plaques on the Cenotaph at Memorial Park Circle

Standing in Memorial Park  Circle is the Cenotaph that
immorializes the names of Transcona men and women
who perished in the First and Second World Wars.
Unfortunately, through the confusion after these wars,
a few of the men who served and did not return were
not included when the Cenotaph was created.  This
was only realized within the last two years.  Through
the efforts of the Transcona Historical Museum, the
missing names were discovered and the Transcona
Legion with the help of Veteran Affairs Canada installed
new plaques on the Cenotaph.
On Sunday, June 5th, 2011 (Decoration Day), new
plaques were dedicated. The President, Jim Sylvester
had read these names out loud letting everyone know
who they are.  There was also a laying of wreaths to
honour all the men and women that made the ultimate
sacrifice.
