May 27 General Meeting Presentation
May 28th
President Dave Tweed along with Comrade Brett Enns presented a cheque to the Transcona and District Pipe Band at their ” Pipes & Pancake Breakfast” fundraiser held in South Transcona Community Centre.
Banners came about with a collaboration with a member of our Community Dave Stewart and Executive Board member Peter Martin whose role is Veteran Affairs Outreach/Rituals for the Branch. The Transcona Museum played an important role on the research of those who served in the two wars and never returned.
The purpose was to place the Banners each year within downtown Transcona from middle of October till Remembrance Day. A way to honour and remember those that served on behalf of our Country, lived in our Community and never returned home.
We received grant funding from the City of Winnipeg- Transcona Biz has contributed to this memorial as well has agreed to hang the Banners throughout Transcona. Our Branch has also provided funding to this great project.
Please join us at the Branch each month and see a new group of the Banners.
There may be family members of yours within this group and we encourage you and your family to come down and see the banners, you are welcome to take photos.
The Banners will be moved from the Branch in the middle of October and will be hung within downtown Transcona till Remembrance Day.
We have included a photo of the two Moroz Brothers (Harry and Mike)-who we have named our Banquet Hall in the Branch after
and Pte George Turcotte who is a family member of Comrade Turcotte a past Executive Board Member and an active volunteer at our Saturday Meat Draw.
