Martin Christmas Wreath Campaign

               CHRISTMAS WREATHS FOR VETERANS  2023

It’s that time of year again. Now that Remembrance Day has passed, we start our preparations for Christmas. Audrey and Peter Martin ask that you continue to keep our Veterans who are buried in the Field of Honour in mind.

Every year, for the past 7 years, the Martins have organized the placing of a wreath on a grave of a veteran in the Field of Honour in the Transcona Cemetery, leading up to Christmas. The Martins are encouraging others to follow their example and purchase or make a wreath, real or artificial, and take it to the Transcona Cemetery to place on the grave of a Veteran in the Field of Honour where 350 Veterans are buried.

These Veterans who lay there gave up many of their Christmases with their families while giving their service to protect and preserve our freedoms. This activity is just another way to show our thanks and appreciation for those who served.

The “kickoff” this year will be on Sunday, December 3th at noon. This annual event is casual and everyone is encouraged to bring a wreath, homemade, refurbished or purchased to the Transcona Field of Honour. Our goal is to have every Veteran’s grave adorned with a wreath.

Of course, anyone can place a wreath any time leading up the Christmas if you cannot be there on Sunday, December 3rd.

We also ask everyone to remove their wreaths during the 1st 2 weeks of January, especially if you want refurbish for next year.

Just lean your wreath against the gravestone rather than attaching any hooks or anything so the gravestone is not damaged. Of course, a wreath can be placed at any time but in the past having a group picture of the wreath placing was touching and special.

Hope you will join us.

Audrey and Peter Martin
